Natural Skin Bendir – Ash Wood
We produce our instruments with an eye from within the music world, in a traditional yet innovative and meticulous manner. As Muen Percussion, we process the wood to be used for production very carefully, knowing its respect and values.
We bend the "cherry wood" that we obtain and will process as the frame of our bendir by heating it in steam; thus, we do not damage the fibrous structure of the wood we use and bend it in a single layer.
We let it rest during the natural drying process. We prefer natural skins according to the hardness and softness structure of the obtained frame.
We crown our frame with matte varnish or natural wood oil, depending on the wood structure and its harmony. In addition to the transparent goatskin we use, we also benefit from different types and properties of goat skins and synthetic skins. Our bendir scale is wide, colorful, and created to appeal to almost every taste and is designed from a musician's perspective; this feature has given the bendir an ergonomic structure.
Our bendir produced from "cherry wood" has 5 different diameter sizes: 35 (14''), 40 (16''), 45 (18''), 50 (20''), and 55 (22'') cm. Therefore, our weights also vary in proportion to the size: they change as 400, 500, 850, 950, 1200 gr.
We usually produce bendirs with a height of 10 cm, and we make some of our bendirs with a height of 6 and 7 cm according to their intended use.
Each of our instruments comes with a bag that is suitable for its own form, carefully produced, and at the same time provides elegance.
As Muen Percussion, we prefer an innovative and open-to-change approach rather than a dogmatic one. We have reflected this approach in our instruments as well.
Our bendirs have an internal tuning system, so you can catch the timbre you want with a little effort. As Muen Percussion, our aim is to design what we, the musicians, want to feel and to put our designs into production. This process, in which we carefully process each piece of wood and give it an identity, and at the same time have fun, takes 3-4 months. As Muen Percussion, our wish is for you to live with rhythms that will do you good.
